About the Studio

Our studio was established as Sunrise Art Glass in 1972 to create and restore leaded glass windows and light fixtures. The business has operated under the same ownership, with a few different names, ever since then.

During our first 45 years or so, we restored leaded glass panels from many noteworthy residential and public buildings in Oak Park, IL, and the greater Chicago area. We designed and built countless others. 

Since the late 1970s, our services have included beveled and engraved glass. At one point Curran Art Glass operated at a production level as Chicagoland’s premier glass fabricating facility. To this day, hand beveling and engraving remains an important facet of our work.

We started bending glass in the early 1980s, as replacement inserts for antique light fixtures. In the mid-‘80s Curran acquired nearly 1,000 hand-forged steel molds, used from the late 1800s through 1985, from Morgan & Company, which bent glass for several generations in Brooklyn, NY.

Curran Glass still offers bent inserts for light fixtures, crown glass and picture frame glass.

Our first studio was in a small storefront on the west side of Chicago. Over the years we occupied commercial and industrial space ranging from 2,000 to 42,000 square feet.

Today, our studio recently moved to an ideal building in River Grove. This location is minutes away from Chicago, Oak Park and River Forest.
